A SMALL DEPARTURE…

So if you know anything about me and my creative drive, you know I can’t steer it very well. Oh my, opening with bad puns, you really are in for it now…

But that is the point of this, I have around three billion projects lined up in my head. I have many projects and less time to do them in. Obviously right now I’m pouring all of my focus into the nearly completed Idiot Zoo, but my choice of where to move onto after that has been rapidly switching up over the past month.

Here’s the silly thing: For as many times as my plans for what’s next have switched, and for all the new things that have entered the mental fray - I still plan on completing all of them.

So what am I to do with all these concepts? Well I have an idea.

Like I said, the next full length album will be ambitious, big, and built completely from scratch. But I think before I really dive into that I want to have a bit of fun.

My plan is to attempt to release three small EP’s in the month of June alone. They will all be concept albums in their own way, because that’s really what I’ve wanted to do lately. It will also be good practice for the massive concept album I have planned.

So as sort of a creative buffer and just a way to say “Here, this is what I’ll do,” I’m going to attempt to get three EP’s full of stories done in June.

I won’t tell you much, but I will give you titles:

How About That Weather?

Suicide Notice

StarF Was A God (S.W.A.G.)

Whether or not they all tie together is a secret, for now…

It’s actually kind of ridiculous how many times I’ve tried to perfect this song to release officially. I think I’m finally happy with it.

Ambition

My next album, the one coming after Idiot Zoo… I’m extremely excited to start working on it.

This will be a big one.

I havemajorplans for this album.

And trust me when I say, this is going to be much bigger than anything I’ve done before.

Everything I’ve done up to this point has been nothing but practice for the launch of the persona I’m about to become. For the legitimate rapper I will soon be. Stealing beats and making songs has been fun, but it’s time to get original. Writing about my personal life and such has been neat, but it’s time to get more global.

It’s time to level up. Big time.

You don’t evenknowwhat’s coming in the next year for me.

But if all goes according to plan, it’s going to be huge.

“But StarF, where’s your Kickstarter!?”

Awhile back in January I announced that I had gotten approved for a Kickstarter I wanted to do in order to fund a Stalker music video. This is still an option and I can still start this Kickstarter at any time. So why haven’t I, you may ask? Well, there’s two reasons:

First is the boring reason of not having a video to put up on the page. I can and will make one, but I haven’t yet, so no Kickstarter.

Second is the reason I’m more worried about. See, I want to do this, but I also don’t want people to feel ripped off. My fear is that this Kickstarter will be successful, and then I’ll put out a mediocre video that people won’t like. I feel like I should just kinda say fuck it and make the video without getting money from people, because if a Kickstarter goes into it people will surely be expecting a level of professionalism that I’m afraid I won’t be able to achieve - even with financial help.

So that’s where I’m at right now, a little on the fence because I don’t want to take peoples’ money and give them an inferior product. Normally I wouldn’t give a fuck if people didn’t like what I put out, but when they’re giving me money it becomes a different matter. It sort of becomes my job to give a fuck.

Truly this is a good thing because it means that I’ll be motivated that much harder to give you the best product I possibly can. But I just hope that you can forgive me if it doesn’t live up to any expectations. I really want this to happen.

Oh and also here’s another fun list of projects

I know I’ve made posts like this before, but let’s rundown what I’m working on as far as albums go:

  • Idiot Zoo- My current main project which is a mixtape full of randomness and loosely themed around criticisms of modern society but mostly just fucking around.
  • [Title Redacted]- I’m still not revealing the title of this one, but I am still very excited to get to work on it. One of the main reasons I want to finish Idiot Zoo is just so that I can get to work on this. I’m going to be working closely with a beatsmith to build this album from the ground up.
  • [Title Redacted]- Another album I’m pretty excited about but one I won’t get to work on for awhile. Once again, this will be built from the ground up, and I’m also starting a Kickstarter for it when the time comes. This is still the big one.
  • Red VS Blue- This is a project between me and Mattari. It’s not a collaboration album, but rather two separate albums. One of us will be releasing “Red,” and the other “Blue.” There will be some similarities and battles between them… It’s hard to explain at the moment, but it’s an interesting and fun concept.
  • Juxtaposed- This release is actually not an album, but two separate EP’s that I’m doing on the side (Each is already actually about 25% done). I decided that in addition to having each EP be its own release, they will also both be released together in one download under the name Juxtaposed. This is because the two albums are about as far away as you can get from each other in style, and will really showcase my two different moods of making music. The first EP is calledBrooding, and is a concept album about the end of the world. It’s very dark, emotional, and filled with storytelling. The other EP is called Upbeat/beatdowN and is not a concept album, but rather a collection of derpy and silly songs specifically meant to be just fun (For example there is a song about crab dancing).
  • Hammocks- The third collaborative album from me and Mattari, which is silly because Round Two never actually released (Well, it still might…?). This album will be full of more silly ridiculous and nerdy songs - we already have all the beats, concepts, and most of the lyrics! We just need to get together for an insane recording session so this album can sit in our computers for a couple years not getting released as well!

And I do believe that’s all of the musical released I’m currently working on or have planned to work on! So… I guess I better get to it! I have much to do and less time to do it in.

Deadlines

I think I need to start setting deadlines for various projects. It’s easier to focus on something when there’s a deadline coming up, even if it’s just a bullshit deadline I set to say “Hey, here’s where I want it to be done by!” If the deadline comes with a consequence all the better, but even my own set deadlines can be enough to motivate me. It makes it easier to tell people I’m busy and can’t hang out as well, because that seems to be the number one killer of my work ethic. “Hey, want to do something tonight?” It’s like I can never say no to an offer to hang out. So I end up doing that instead of recording. It’s a real hassle.

I believe that my deadline for “finishing” Idiot Zoo will beMay 15th. I put finishing in quotations because I mean that’s when I want to have everything on my end finished. I want all of my recording and revising to be done by then. Coincidentally that’s also when Diablo 3 comes out, and this goal hasabsolutely nothingto do with that. Nope, not at all. If all goes well - meaning if the people I’m going to be collaborating with move quickly with their verses - I should be able to release Idiot Zoo very shortly after May 15th. Perhaps even sooner if everything should come together so nicely.

April in large is going to be a “Shut the fuck up and get to work” month, both with my jobs and with my craft methinks.

I also need to start setting deadlines for my various video projects that I want to accomplish. There’s a lot of those, and at some point I’m going to get the ball rolling on them and hopefully watch it snowball into great success.

I’m calling it here and now: Shits gonna get done, and it’s going to be awsome. Let’s make something happen.
