Sherby Starz!
Oh man, what a weekend!
After a few shifts in plans, I ended up visiting my good friend and recording partner Mattari 2600 on Saturday. I hadn’t hung out with him in quite awhile, so I was rather excited to just be able to derp around with someone who has the same dumb sense of humor as I do. We definitely didn’t intend to record anything, especially since I didn’t bring over my own mic (Since it gets better quality than his Blue Snowball). Normally if we ever record together I transport him back here, or my mic over there, in the interest of quality. This particular get-together was more in the interest of playing video games and just laughing our asses off while swapping silly inside jokes.
Instead we ended up Snow Ballin’.

Yes indeed, with the itch to record something, I said to Mattari: “I don’t even care if it’s ridiculous or a little low quality, I’m going to write a verse. We’re making a song.” And that was the beginning of the wonderfully derpy adventure that is Snow Ballin’. See, it had just freshly snowed outside, and it was a pretty bad snow as well. So we decided it would be best if I stayed the night. This gave us time to spawn a ridiculous idea: After we finished recording that first song we both thought the same thing, hey, why don’t we just make an entire EP tonight!?
So that’s exactly what we ended up doing. From Saturday night to Sunday afternoon we had constructed a seven track EP. An EP that will be available for free to anyone who cares to hear some really silly songs tomorrow at some point! Why the wait if the songs are done? Well they’re not really mixed yet. That’s not to say they’re going to sound fantastic or necessarily even ‘polished,’ don’t expect a lot from this EP. It was done in one night after all. But we still wanted to shine it up a little bit.
To reiterate, this is just for fun. Our entire idea behind the songs was to write whatever we could think of, and whatever came to our heads first - those were our verses. A lot of it is either really stupid or doesn’t make any sense. If you’ve heard The Brigayde album, you’ll know exactly what to expect. When we were recording we made this the rule: You’re only allowed three takes. Once the third attempt was done, as long as it wasn’t completely mangled (As in, missing words or completely slurred and fucked up lines), that was the verse we kept. As a result, there’s some stumbles and errors that we simply didn’t care enough about to smooth out.
This was definitely exactly what I needed to get me out of my recording slump though. This weekend was probably the most fun I’ve ever had recording anything. Just messing around with Mattari and making crazy songs about the weirdest stuff. It really made me feel good about rapping again. That’s not to say that all my material from here on out will be completely silly, I’m just saying that frankly I feel revitalized and ready to record again in general.
Snow Ballin’ will release tomorrow (Hopefully!) and include tracks about absolute nonsense, being men on the moon, recreational suppositories, being chairmen, shoveling the driveway at 2AM (Based on a true story!!!), periscopes, and how people simply don’t pay attention to the lyrics of songs anymore, so it’s okay to be silly and excuses the entire album somehow.
I hope some of you will enjoy it. I know I enjoyed making it.
