Nostalgia and amnesia

Earlier today I was looking through a bunch of my demos for Idiot Zoo with the intention of working on some of them, seeing as how my internet was down (It still is, I’m currently writing this on a borrowed laptop). I listened to the demo for a song I barely even remembered making and thought “Hm, yeah, I can definitely improve on this!” So I opened the project files to get to work, and to my surprise it sounded completely different when I played the song back in Audacity. Turns out I had already re-recorded the entire song, but never exported the new demo. Well, makes it that much easier for me!

So I started searching through my folder for other songs that I didn’t quite recognize and I realized something: There are a lot of demos I’ve made that I don’t quite remember making. I found so many songs that I didn’t recollect at all, some were absolutely terrible and some were actually pretty cool (and I’ll probably expand on some of them and revive them), but the weird thing was that I just don’t remember coming up with them at all.

In the midst of all this I even came across one of the first songs I ever did, which was awful, but it made me laugh. Not only because of the sheer irony of the song (A braggadocio track about how great I am), but because at the end I didn’t stop recording but instead continued to ramble on with my friend who was also working on the song with me. You can actually hear it right here, but be warned, it’s ridiculous.

I guess I could probably go on, but I hate typing on this laptop, so hopefully I will have my own internets back by tomorrow (I should!). I plan on using the next couple days to really work on music more. I would do even more tonight, but it’s getting late and I work in the morning, then again, who needs to sleep?
